In this picture, we can see a trunnion-mounted ball Valve with a Single-Acting fail-to-close pneumatic actuator attached.
Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves are quarter-turn from open to close, assuring a fast response. The ball is fixed to a bearing at the bottom as well as by the stem at the top, which improves its resistance to pressure. Single-acting pneumatic actuators use high-pressure air to open the ball and mechanical springs to close it. They can be inversely configured too, in order to meet the requirements of the system. This kind of actuator are fail-safe design: in case air power pressure fails, the valve quickly moves to its normal position.
